Lychee are one of my all-time favourite fruits. Fresh is better than canned, but I found a dusty can in the back of my pantry and decided to make some easy lychee sorbet.

Summertime means sun-drenched patios and pitchers of refreshing, thirst quenching cocktails. One of my favourite places for cocktails is Guu, a local chain of Japanese izakayas. I really like Japanese cocktails-they tend to be lighter on the alcohol and there’s a big focus on fresh flavours.
There’s something about homemade that people love. Do you ever find that people will refuse something you offer until they’ve figured out it’s homemade? This happened with my cherry lime sorbet the other day. One second nobody wanted to touch it, then the next, they were all clamouring for a taste.
I love sour cream – it’s tang, it’s thick creaminess and the way it is essential to certain dishes without being the star. I’ve eaten many tubs of sour cream and never has it occurred to me to make ice cream with it.
I think I’m going to have to retire Deep-Fry Fridays. Not because these zucchini sticks were horrible – they were quite good – but because I’m so over deep-frying, especially in the summer.
