Is there anything more delicious than crispy pork, eggs, pasta and cheese? Carbonara just may be my favourite way to eat breakfast foods at dinner. The very first time I heard about carbonara, I was in my late teens. I was working at a deli/bakery, and my manager was a super-sweet Italian woman who would chat with me about all the delicious Italian dishes she would cook for her husband, two sons and daughter.

In the past I had a love-hate relationship with sandwiches. As a kid, I thought they were the nastiest invention ever – especially the ones my mom made for lunch when she was running low on time. Those sandwiches were only sandwiches in the technical sense: two slices of white bread, mayo and a slice of baloney.

I love basil, pine nuts and cheese, so it’s only logical that I like pesto. What isn’t logical is how long it took me to finally make my own pesto at home. Pesto is quick, easy and tastes fantastic on almost anything.

Do you guys remember when McDonald’s used to have scrambled eggs for breakfast? They’d come in one of those flip top styrofoam containers and the eggs would be rubbery and usually cold. When I was a kid, strange as this may sound, those eggs were my breakfast of choice on the rare occasion we had McDonald’s for breakfast.

Fish is one of those things that I always vow I’ll cook more of. The other day I had a fabulous miso black cod at my favourite sushi joint and it was so good I was inspired to make it at home. Black cod is buttery, rich and silky.
